Tired in February? How vitamin D can help you.

The dark winter months are coming to an end, but many of us still feel tired, listless and exhausted. Even though the days are slowly getting brighter again, the light of the February sun is often not enough to bring the body completely out of winter mode. One possible reason: a lack of vitamin D , the "sunshine vitamin".

Why do we lack vitamin D – even in February?

Our body produces vitamin D mainly through the effect of UVB rays on the skin. However, in the winter months - from October to April - the sunlight in our latitudes is too weak to stimulate vitamin D production sufficiently. Many people therefore have significantly lower vitamin D levels at the beginning of the year, as the reserves from the summer are also running out.

How does a deficiency become noticeable?

A vitamin D deficiency can cause many symptoms, including:

  • Tiredness and exhaustion , even after sufficient sleep.

  • More frequent infections because the immune system is weakened.

  • Muscle pain or weakness that has no clear cause.

  • Low moods or irritability , as vitamin D also plays a role in the regulation of happiness hormones.

How can you balance vitamin D?

To support your vitamin D levels during the last weeks of winter, a daily supplement of 2000 IU (international units) can be useful. This dosage is not a problem for most people and helps the body to reduce the typical symptoms of a deficiency. In addition, it is advisable to actively replenish your vitamin D through exposure to sunlight from spring onwards.

Daylight remains an important factor

Even if the February sun is not yet enough to meet your vitamin D needs, a walk outside is still good. Bright daylight regulates your biorhythm, lifts your mood and gives your body the exercise it desperately needs after the dark months.

Act now – for an energetic spring

With targeted measures, you can prevent the winter blues from following you into the beginning of spring. A vitamin D supplement, combined with regular time outdoors, gives your body the support it needs now. Remember: even small changes can have a big impact on your well-being.
